significant event: band
My significant life event was basically two parts. One event hidden in another. The first significant event was my decision to join band, or rather stay with it. At first I was unsure because of how little I enjoyed band camp, but it was the best decision so far. Within this event was my decision to switch from clarinet to mellophone. Both events combined have changed the direction my freshman year could have gone drastically.
Joining band was definitely a great decision. Basically every friend I have at UC is in band. When my family left me at band camp, I was scared to death. I was not very good at making friends in my younger years, and only had a few close ones. I was so scared that I would not be able to find that good of friends again and I would revert to being awkward and shy again. However, band is the best family I could have asked for. However, when I began band camp, I marched with a clarinet, but I had usually marched mellophone in high school. After a few days I decided I wanted to switch to mellophone and I had to jump through a few loops to do so, but it was worth it. My roommate played mellophone so it was easier to get acclimated with them. Also my current other best friend plays mellophone as well. If I would not have switched, I am not sure if I would have become initial best friends with both of them changing my entire experience here at UC.
I chose to use photographs as my visual because they depict the friendships I’ve made very accurately. I am so proud of the quality of friends I have made at UC and I don’t think my experience would have been anything like it has been without them. I have spent virtually every weekend with them, cheered together at every football game,, traveled to New York City, and am even planning on living with my two mellophone friends next year.
