Cultural & Global Growth
The cultural experienced on my trip to China were unlike any other culture I had experienced before.
Although our trip was only a week long, we were able to explore so much of this huge country including the cities of Beijing, Xi'an, and Chongqing. The bustling city life in Beijing and Chongqing was of a magnitude I hadn't even imagined. These massive cities both had so much to offer, we couldn't even see it all, and our trip to Xi'an allowed us to see an ancient city with rural roots. This trip allowed to me to understand the culture of the Chongqing students arriving at UC this fall, and relate much better to any struggles they may find within our own culture here. |
Professional Growth
I am currently finishing my final co-op rotations at Cook Medical headquarters in Bloomington, Indiana. I have been on the Critical Care team for both semesters and have learned a lot about the medical device industry. A bulk of my work has been focused on testing and documentation to support 510(k) submissions, giving me valuable experience and familiarity with FDA standards and test methods.
Being my first co-op in the medical field, I went into the experience completely unfamiliar with many devices sold, manufacturing processes used, design inputs, and industry standards. After two semesters with Cook, I feel much more confident in my knowledge about the industry, and am comfortable with my plans to pursue a career in the medical device industry upon graduation. |
extracurricular involvement & leadership experience
This past fall (2016) I decided to join, and become a founding member of, the Engineering Diplomats committee. This committee has definitely challenged and strengthened me in my abilities to communicate effectively, organize events, and relate to students accustomed to another culture. A more detailed look at my involvement can be found on my Engineering Diplomats page here. |
